The big Picture

What can I do in this game, what’s the goal, how do I win are questions sandbox developers and players often get asked by new players. The answer is two-fold.

The first is: survive. There are many mechanics, like hunger, thirst, decay and roaming monsters that keep you busy to stay well and slowly advance towards better items. Also the undead will scout out larger settlements and start to attack or even siege them.

The other part of the answer is: take the world in your hands. Build roads, towns or even empires, join villages, clans and wars, play politics, trade, or start your hermit house behind the mountains. The world is changed by players and the politics should be like in EVE or old UO, where clans define the playing field and even the rule of law.

OK, but what to do right now ?

  1. First step is to do the in-game tutorial. You can also read about Basic Survival and see the Tutorial videos.
  2. If you are comfortable with the controls and UI, you should start to search a copper mine.  This will likely be your first settlement spot, so make sure there is water, wood and farm land (grass) available around. Also set up a tent, fill it with gems, prepare 50 small snacks, set up a rest and eat task and clear the area of monsters before going offline.
    • Copper mines can be found north of the coast. Mining spots are always located on south walls and are represented as small cracks in those walls. You have to look carefully, they sometimes are surrounded by lumps of copper ore (turquoise).
    • Then you have to craft a mine entry and set it on the crack in the wall.
    • You also have to craft a smelter to them make copper bars.
    • With your first copper bars you can craft an anvil.
    • In that anvil you can craft further copper equipment and machines. This and the skill progression should occupy your char for the next days.
  3. Next task would be to find a tin mine to upgrade to bronze equipment. This is easiest done in a group. Tin mines can be found in forests.
